Conflict Analysis Report: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Crisis
Updated based on the events in Jan 2025. Internal report for ARAC stakeholders made available for founding members
The ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has escalated significantly with the capture of Goma by the M23 rebel group, reportedly backed by Rwanda. This development has severe humanitarian, regional stability, and geopolitical implications. This report applies the Conflict Analysis Framework (CAF) to analyze the structural causes, key actors, conflict dynamics, and potential pathways to resolution, integrating the latest insights from The Congo Research Group, UN reports, the Quanta Analytica MNS Curated DRC Research, and humanitarian assessments. This report was prepared by an analytic tool developed on the OpenAI platform using a customized GPT that was trained using conflict analysis frameworks and using quantitative and qualitative data and information to map out the conflict in a structured, easy-to-follow format. We used a targeted prompt engineering technique integrating CoT and NLP methods to extract data and information needed to make sure the GPT produced the output in the proper format.

The strategic insights from this report is reserved for Founding Members only.
